Compliance and Ethics

The University Eye Center (UEC) is committed to conducting all operations with integrity and upholding ethical and responsible practices. The UEC Compliance Program is designed to promote a culture that encourages ethical conduct consistent with applicable laws, regulations and our policies and procedures. Reporting Potential Violations

If you become aware of activities that may violate the law or UEC policies, including but not limited to:

  • Medicare/Medicaid fraud and abuse
  • Fraudulent billing
  • Professional and business ethics violations
  • Professional standards of practice
  • Patient confidentiality breaches
  • Patient rights violations
  • Conflicts of interest
  • Bribes & kickbacks
  • Substance abuse
  • Harassment or discrimination

The University Eye Center ensures the confidentiality of all reports and the individuals submitting them. The UEC encourages employees, students, patients, vendors, or any members of the public to report any actual or suspected violations of UEC policies, procedures, or federal and state law.

All reports received via the hotline or email are reviewed in accordance with UEC and SUNY College of Optometry policies by the Compliance Officer. Reports may also be reviewed by other relevant departments or personnel, including but not limited to Human Resources, the HIPAA Privacy Officer, and the College’s Legal Counsel. Appropriate action will be taken to address and resolve any issues identified.

Non-Retaliation Policy

The University Eye Center strictly prohibits retaliation against any individual who, in good faith, reports a compliance concern or participates in a compliance review.
